Board names lone finalistPosted by Steve Scheffler at 4/11/2017 9:55:00 AM
The Pflugerville ISD Board of Trustees is pleased to unanimously name Dr. Doug Killian as the lone finalist for PfISD Superintendent. He was named during a special meeting on Monday, April 10. Dr. Killian currently serves as the Superintendent for Hutto ISD.
PfISD Board President Vernagene Mott said the Board believes Dr. Killian is a great fit for Pflugerville ISD and will lead the district in addressing its rapid growth while focusing on fulfilling its mission of providing a quality education for all children. Mott praised her fellow Board members for their hard work and dedication in choosing a superintendent candidate.
“We had a strong pool of candidates and Dr. Killian quickly rose to the top,” said Mott. “He met so many of the qualifications that our staff and community indicated were crucial in our next superintendent. His previous experience as a superintendent is a big plus, but his personality and history of leadership and collaboration came shining through during our discussions.”
The Board also cited his impressive academic leadership, servant leadership, and strong civic involvement.
Dr. Killian brings 13 years of superintendent experience to PfISD, serving the last seven years with Hutto ISD.
“I am extremely excited about the opportunity to join the Pflugerville family,” said Dr. Killian. “I’d like to thank the Board of Trustees for their faith and trust. It is a wonderful opportunity to join such an outstanding district and staff.”
Dr. Killian received his doctorate in educational administration from Texas A&M University, his master's degree in educational administration from Texas A&M International University, and his bachelor's degree in political science and history from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University).
According to state law, the district must fulfill a 21-day waiting period before executing a contract. He is expected to begin full time with the district in June.

Now that the application deadline has passed, the Board has begun the interview process for PfISD’s next Superintendent of Schools. Using input that was gathered from the community and PfISD staff in February and March as a guide, the Board has narrowed the candidate field and hopes to name a finalist in April. The state of Texas mandates a 21-day waiting period from the time the finalist is named to the time that the Board can take action and officially execute a contract. It is hoped that the new Superintendent could begin full time by mid summer.
Online input for Superintendent SearchPosted by Tamra Spence at 2/17/2017
It is very important to the Board that staff and community have the opportunity to provide feedback on what qualities and characteristics that it would like to see in the next Superintendent. The district has created an online survey opportunity to provide input to the process as well and all input will be shared with the Board. Click here to take the survey.
Additionally there will be an open community forum on Wednesday February 22, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. in the PfISD Rock Gym (immediately next door to Timmerman Elementary at 700 West Pecan St. in Pflugerville), where the community can provide input into the selection process.

At its February 2 meeting, the Pflugerville ISD Board of Trustees voted to hire the firm of Walsh, Gallegos, Trevino, Russo and Kyle to conduct the search for the next Superintendent of Schools. The position has been posted on the major superintendent web sites, such as TexasISD.com and Tasanet.org.
The posting will stay open for applications until March 16. Trustees will review all applications and make selections for candidates to interview during the last part of March. By early April, the Board will begin the interview process, with a final selection of a lone finalist later in April. There is a state-mandated, 21-day waiting period after naming a lone finalist before the Board can officially execute a contract. The Board hopes that the new Superintendent will enter the district on a full-time basis sometime in early summer.
It is very important to the Board that staff and community have the opportunity to provide feedback on what qualities and characteristics that it would like to see in the next Superintendent. With that in mind, there will be an open community forum on Wednesday February 22, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. in the PfISD Rock Gym (immediately next door to Timmerman Elementary at 700 West Pecan St. in Pflugerville), where the community can provide input into the selection process. Staff will be on hand to take comments that will be provided to the Board of Trustees to assist them in the search process.
The forum will have a come-and-go format to provide flexibility for community members who wish to participate. In addition, for those who cannot attend the forum or wish to provide online input, there will be an online survey opportunity to provide input to the process as well. Visit the PfISD website (PfISD.net) beginning Friday, February 17, and click the link that says “Superintendent Survey.” All input will be shared with the Board.
