It is nice to see the fall weather start to appear with cooler nights and mornings. Below are some events for the month of October.
PTO Fall Fest is October 14, 2016. The flyers are below.
October 21, 2016 is fall picture day. These are pre-paid pictures.
As soon as Photo Texas delivers more information we will send it home. Picture retakes will be December 6th if you are not satisfied with the photos you receive from October 21st.
We have a new sign in the parking lot to remind parents that students are not to be dropped off in the parking lot. This poses a risk to their safety due to the amount of traffic. If you would like to drop students off you may use the car loop, or you may also park and walk your student to the crosswalk area. Thank you for your commitment to keep everyone safe.
Jacket weather is here. Please be sure that your student has their name written in their jackets. As the day warms up they are often forgotten behind.
Teachers will be contacting parents to set-up parent-teacher conferences for the month of October.
Please note some important dates coming up this month.

Good Afternoon CWES Families,
In the upcoming week, we will have several events that will prepare us for the big day.
- Aug. 17 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Teachers will be out and about visiting students that reside in the CWES attendance area. If the weather does not permit this, we will be making phone calls to welcome students to the 2016-2017 school year.
Meet the Teacher and Back to School Orientation
WHEN: Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016
- Session 1: 5 p.m.
- Session 2: 5:30 p.m.
- Session 3: 6 p.m.
All grades except third will meet in their classrooms.
3rd grade will meet in the computer lab; Aramark will be in the library to assist with free/reduced lunch applications.
Each session will be a repeat of the same information
The PTO will have the new school t-shirt available to purchase.
If you ordered pre-packaged school supply kit, they will be delivered to your student's classroom before meet the teacher.
Car tags for Car Riders will be available from the classroom teachers.
First Day of School
Tuesday, Aug. 23 is the first day of school. School announcements start at 7:35 a.m. with the tardy bell ringing at 7:40 a.m. The building will open at 7 a.m. to allow students to eat breakfast; we have universal free breakfast. Students and parents will be allowed to make their way to the classrooms at 7:15 a.m. on the first day.
After the first-day parents may walk their student to the first cross hall starting at 7:20 a.m. Please be mindful that there will be a ton of traffic for the first few days! Those living close by are strongly encouraged to walk or bike to school if the weather cooperates.
3rd Grade Residency Verification
In addition to being a requirement for all newly enrolled students to PfISD, returning students in grades Kindergarten, third, sixth, and ninth must provide proof of residency. This link provides information about the required documentation (pay special attention to columns, A, B, and C on the included table). More information and the request for documentation also will come home with 3rd-grade students the first week of school.
Families are welcome to bring school supplies to Meet the Teacher this Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016, from 5 – 6:30 p.m. Pre-packaged school supplies purchased through the PTO service offered in spring will be delivered to the classroom before meet the teacher.
Free & Reduced Lunch Applications
Families, we need your help! The Food Services Department again has challenged all schools with our annual friendly competition to see which campus can submit the most applications by OCT. 7, 2016. The winning school will receive $500 for school/office supplies. Every school has a chance to win. Applications are accepted two ways:
1. Online: available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese at www.myschoolapps.com/Application
2. Paper: downloadable files are available at www.pfisd.net/. Paper files also are available at Rowe Lane and the Food Services Office, (512) 594-0430. Paper forms must be submitted to the school front office or to the Food Services.

- Students being dropped off in the morning need to be either dropped off in the car loop or drivers will need to park and walk their student(s) to the crosswalk. We have had students dropped off in various areas of the parking lot which is very unsafe.
- PTO will meet this evening in the cafeteria starting at 6:00 pm.
- We have been pulling students from each class to have lunch with administrators in a student forum. The purpose of the forum is to discuss:
- What makes Caldwell a great place?
- What could we do to improve Caldwell?
- This has led to many great discussions and some information we can use moving forward to help make CWES a better place. If the students were willing we also captured what they felt made CWES a great place for a video project. This was optional for the students. The students seem to enjoy being able to provide feedback.
- We will be sending home a parent letter Friday discussing STAAR testing and what dates the campus will be closed to visitors. I have included the letters below.
We have some important, upcoming events I wanted to share with you.
- Lost and found has been on display for several weeks on the stage in the cafeteria. We will bag up what is remaining on 3/11/2016. If your student is missing a jacket please stop by to take a look.
