    Dear Diamondback Family,

As we prepare for our 5th grade parent night this evening, I wanted to tell you about some of the great things going on here at Dessau Middle School.  Monday evening, our 8th grade boys basketball teams played Pflugerville Middle school, with our 8th grade A team coming out with a big win. They will be competing next week for the district championship versus Cele Middle School.  Last week we launched our very own Dessau News Network (DNN), which help us to showcase video news segments as well as help with our announcements in the cafeteria.  Look for more from DNN in the near future on our campus website. Recently, our students participated in an assembly to support our No Place for Hate initiative.  They had the opportunity to hear Jo Ivester, author of The Outskirts of Hope, a memoir of life in the deep south in the 60s.

A few of our upcoming activities:

    ·         Wed, Feb 1st is early release day, students will be dismissed at 12:45

    ·         Thurs, Feb 2nd girls basketball will tip off vs. Cele for the season finale

    ·         Mon, Feb 6th boys basketball will play their season finale vs Cele

    ·         Fri, Feb 10th we will have our Valentine’s dance

We hope to see you at the upcoming events, and hope you have a Great Diamondback evening.

    Jeremy

    Dear Diamondback Family,

I hope your week was as great as ours here at DMS.  We enjoyed being back with the kids and starting our second semester.  I wanted to pass along a couple of great opportunities that CHS is providing, so that you and your student may be able to attend.

    Course Fair Night at CHS

Next week CHS will host its course fair.  It is scheduled for Wednesday night starting at 6:00. All current 8th graders are strongly encouraged to attend this event. It has always been the intention of PfISD’s leadership both at the campus and district level to create schools that offer courses of interest for all students. At this event, CHS students will be showcasing and discussing the value and benefits of their specific classes. Attendance at this event should be considered critical since parents and students will leave Wednesday night being more informed about the direction of their high school education and post-graduate career.

    Coding Opportunity for 8th graders

Connally High School in partnership with The Hispanic Heritage Foundation and Best Buy is offering a very special computer course to CHS students for the second year in a row.  The course, Coding as a Second Language, is an introductory course to computer programming.  Lessons and learning will focus on basic markup languages HTML, CSS & JAVA.  The course is free and open to all CHS students and will be extended to interested 8th graders at Dessau MS and Westview MS.  Sessions begin Tuesday, January 10th and run through Tuesday, February 14th. All sessions will begin at 4:15 p.m. and last until 5:45 p.m.

I hope you have a great weekend,

    Diamondback family,

I hope this e-mail finds you well this Tuesday afternoon.  I had the privilege of attending our Winter Choir concert Monday evening. The kids did a great job of performing all of the holiday hits.   A special thanks to Mr. Jumonville for all of his hard work and his ability to get us into the Christmas spirit.

Our 8th grade boys A team pulled out a big win over Pflugerville MS last night.  If you haven’t had a chance to see these guys play, please plan to attend a game.  They are a hard working group of boys. The B team was unsuccessful, but they play with heart.

Our Winter Band Concert is Wednesday evening at 6:30 at CHS.

In effort to help support our students and staff in finishing up lessons and finals, we have moved our Second Annual Chess Tournament to Friday, December 16th.

Thursday, December 15th, we will be hosting our 25 book challenge party with cookies and cocoa for all of those who have qualified.

Thursday, December 15th, our girls’ basketball team will be playing Cele MS.  7th grade will be playing at home.

Friday, December 16th is our early release at 12:45, as well as our Grand Chess Tournament.

    Sincerely,

    Jeremy

Buses will drop off in the front and parents will drop off in the back of the school. In the gym, students will pick up their schedules and report to either the cafeteria for breakfast or to their grade-level hallway (B hall – 6th grade, C hall – 7th grade, D hall – 8th grade).

An announcement will be made at 8:02 and students will report to their 1st period classes.

First day packets will be handed out in their second period classes. Please fill out these forms and have your student return them as soon as possible to their SECOND PERIOD teacher.
