    Parents,

One thing we request and rely upon this time of year is a completed “Intent to Return Form” for every child in grades Kinder – 4th. Having this information allows us to plan and staff appropriately for the coming year, which is critical to serving our children best. If you have not yet had a chance to complete and return yours, please do so ASAP or send a quick message to your child’s teacher. In the event that the form did not reach you, please email our registrar, Madeline.Sheppard@pfisd.net so that we can assist you.

    Appreciatively,

    Ben

    Rocket Families,

I trust the three-day weekend was good to you and yours. We have some firsts coming up this week at Rowe Lane: Spirit Night at Zaxby's, First Responders Day for the students on Friday, and Beautify Rowe Lane for Earth Day this Saturday. All three occasions are celebrations of the connections between our school and this amazing community. I hope you have a chance to stop by Wednesday and Saturday, and again, please share with your neighbors that the lights and vehicles on display around our school Friday morning is no cause for alarm.

Finally, here again is the link to our PTO positions for the coming year: https://goo.gl/OkvBLt. We have some outstanding teammates returning, but each year we need new faces and ideas, including leadership Chairs. Please read the welcome message and peruse the descriptions of each position to see where you can lend your talents and efforts!

Read on for many, many more details regarding the weeks to come, and a special note from Mrs. Rebecek at the bottom for future Mott Elementary Owls.

Zaxby's Spirit Night THIS Wednesday April 19th

Zaxby's has opened its doors in Pflugerville and is open for business. Mark your calendars for our first Zaxby's Spirit Night on Wednesday, April 19, from 5:30-8:00pm. A portion of all sales will be donated to Rowe Lane!

First Responders Day THIS Friday April 21st

During the school day on Friday, April 21st, our students will have a chance to meet our community first responders. While this event is not open to parents and visitors, I did want to make everyone aware of the reason we will have so many ambulances, fire trucks, and law enforcement vehicles at Rowe Lane. Please help spread the word to neighbors who may not have children at Rowe Lane. It will be quite a scene!

Beautify Rowe Lane THIS Saturday April 22nd

On Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, from 9:00 - 11;30a.m., our PTO Green Initiatives team has scheduled work projects to add curb appeal to our school. We could use your muscle and hustle to help install some landscaping additions. Also, as a service to the neighborhood and as good citizens of planet Earth, we will collect your hard-to-recycle items so that they can be disposed of or recycled properly (e.g., paint or batteries, but extensive list to come).

Prekindergarten Preregistration THIS Saturday, April 22, 2017

    Rocket Families,

We had two, big events this week, so shout outs go to our parent volunteers who manned shifts throughout the week and late into the evening for Family Book Fair Night. We had a hard time keeping popular titles on the shelves, which bodes well for our Rowe Lane Readers! Our second shout out goes to our PTO and Fine Arts Committee for organizing Fine Arts Night. It was a spectacular celebration of our students and the arts, and a ton of fun!

Ballots are open for leadership positions and committees for next year’s Rocket PTO. We have so many great programs that only are possible through the support of our PTO members. Simply by being a parent of a student at Rowe Lane, you automatically are a member. Check out this link to see how you can get connected to some of the wonderful opportunities we provide our children.

*Special note: Mrs. Rebecek, principal of Mott Elementary, will make a contribution to the weekly Update each week for our future Mott Owls. Scroll to the bottom for her message.

Read on for more details on the weeks ahead,

    Rocket Families,

First, please keep in mind that we have State Testing on-campus this Tuesday and Wednesday, which means we will be a closed campus to non-staff. We have modified staff assignments and schedules throughout the building, and as such visitors will be allowed only in the main office on those days. Please plan lunch visits, classroom visits, or volunteer activities for Monday, Thursday, or Friday this week.

Two shout outs: First, to Mr. Martinez, who volunteered his architecture skills to create a surreal set piece for our upcoming Musical performance of School House Rock, Junior in April. Without giving too much away before the show, let me just say… WOW! Second, we are more than $1,000 closer to our new playground equipment goals because of an incredibly generous donation from one of our families this past week. They insisted on anonymity, but I must at least send out a public THANK YOU.

Mostly, we are keeping things pretty quiet and uneventful after school this week. If you have 4th or 5th graders, a good night’s sleep, a nutritious breakfast, and a hug on the way to school are all they really need on test days. Our teachers have prepared our students well, and know how to take care of the kids on these days once they are at school.

Read on for events and details coming up,

    Ben

    Student Attendance Counts

Researchers and educators agree that student attendance is a significant indicator of a child’s success in school. Because of this, we are required to act whenever a child misses 10 days of school or is on-pace to miss 10 days for the year. Illnesses are unavoidable and keeping a sick child home is a must; therefore, we encourage parents to be thoughtful of this when scheduling vacations, appointments, and other events that may require a student to miss all or part of a school day.

    Rocket Families,

Welcome back! I trust the past week has been rejuvenating to your family, and I am eager to see our students again.

March is Women’s History Month, and in the spirit of raising and educating the next generation of amazing women, I am passing on a couple of recommended reads I enjoy sharing with my own daughter:

Strong is the New Pretty: A Celebration of Girls Being Themselves – by Kate T. Parker

    - love this one for the beautiful montage of girls from every walk of life, proud and confident in who they are.

Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Tales of Extraordinary Women – by Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo

    - the stories of 100 historic, heroic women, each told as a “bedtime story” in a single page with a vibrant illustration.

Plenty of upcoming events, so read on for more details of the weeks ahead, and be sure to scroll to the bottom for information on our upcoming Book Fair!

Next time you come by the school, be sure to check out a new display near the front office. We have upped our recess minutes this semester and would like to enhance our playground as well so that students have more options for play. So far, we have raised over $2,000 toward the cause! Thank you Mrs. Holland and Mrs. Shoaf for creating a fun way of tracking our fundraising:

A reminder that the arrival of Spring Break also signals the end of the 3rd nine-week grading period. At the 2nd grading period awards assembly, I asked students to reflect on what they have been working on, and a few of our students shared their successes at the assembly. I also asked students to take a moment and consider a goal. Consider asking your child about the goal or what makes him or her feel most proud about school – I would love to hear a few more stories shared at the next assembly.

    Rocket Families,

Plenty to be proud of at Rowe Lane this week. This coming Friday is Random Acts of Kindness Day, and if you saw or heard about the KXAN feature on Giving at Rowe Lane, you know we already are off to an incredible start. Our amazing coaching staff has rallied the Rockets to raise over $3,000 in just three short days of the Jump Rope for Heart campaign! Catch the announcements Monday morning for footage of just how committed they really are…

This past Friday our staff nominated and selected two of our faculty to be recognized for their exceptional work. Congratulations to Brett Stanley, our Teacher of the Year, and to Erika Cruz, our Humanitarian of the Year! Standing out among this extraordinary team of educators truly is OUTSTANDING. Mr. Stanley and Ms. Cruz exemplify the values of Rowe Lane, and I certainly have grown professionally for having worked alongside them. We are fortunate to have such leaders on our campus.

Not nearly as many events this week, but read on for more information, including Pre-K registration,
