Thursday is the final day of school, and an early release at 12:00pm for students. EDP will be in session beginning at 12:00pm until 6:30pm. Rocket Families,

Our last full week of school has arrived. After the break from routine last week, we are grateful to return to business as usual for the most part this week. Some of you are aware that we have been collecting information in small bursts during classroom visits to gauge the level of rigor our students are experiencing on the whole across our campus. Now is the time of year when students are most engaged in activities that apply all the knowledge and understanding from the year’s curriculum. It is very gratifying to witness the deep thinking our students are doing and the change in complexity from ten months ago. I am very proud of our teachers and students and all the work they have done this year. I look forward to seeing many of you next week as part of our celebration for another great year of learning at Rowe Lane.

    Indoor Dismissal Procedures
In case we have inclement weather during the remaining days of school, we would like parents to know that any students who walk or ride bikes home will be escorted to the cafeteria first, and then dismissed through the main entrance. Students who meet up with siblings before heading home will do so in the cafeteria. We hope this change simplifies making parent/child connections at dismissal.

A doctor note or parent note should be brought to school when your child returns, and an email from you to the teacher and our registrar, Quinlyn.Barnette@pfisd.net, is acceptable for a parent note.

    Rocket Families,

HUGE shout outs to this community for making Teachers and Staff feel special and appreciated last week! Our PTO Hospitality Committee spoiled us once again, filling bellies and filling buckets with food and reminders of how extraordinary the educators AND families at Rowe Lane are. Thank you for the support and TLC.

By now, I hope our 3rd and 4th grade students are sleeping comfortably. As you may know, Monday and Tuesday are State Testing days for reading and math in grades 3 and 4. Wednesday our 5th grade students will test in science. For our students, this simply should be a break from routine. We encourage our kids to try hard, take their time, and do their best – just as we do every other day. While we do what we can to prevent any “test stress,” some of our students may feel anxious. If you notice your child feeling this way, here are a few easy things that might make a difference:

    • Getting to bed on time or early; winding down with a good book rather than screen time.
    • Eating a healthy breakfast. (Free breakfast is provided at school on State Testing days J)
    • Smile, and remind them to do the same. Each and every Rocket should feel well-prepared.

That’s really all they need at this point. Our teachers and kids are exceptional, and the hard work has been happening all along. We will be back on our regular schedule beginning Thursday, and a reminder that we are a closed campus to visitors until then. Hope to see many of you at Mod Pizza Night this week, and read on for details of the final weeks ahead.

    Rocket Families,

I wanted to share a few important upcoming events and information that I neglected to include in Sunday's update:

    1) The system we use in the front office to sign-in visitors, Raptor, received an upgrade this week. As a result, each visitor will need to scan a driver license or produce another government-issued ID the first time you sign-in with the new system. It is a rather quick process, but please be prepared for the one-time extra step.

    2) Our Accelerated Reader celebrations for students in grades 2-5 who met their reading goal includes our AR Walk in which students parade through the building. If you had planned to come and cheer for our students, the Walk will happen this Friday, May 10, after Enrichment, as close to 8:15 a.m. as possible. If you plan to attend, please give yourself enough time to scan your ID using Raptor in the front office.

    3) Our last round of State Testing for the year will happen next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, May 13-15. Our campus will be closed to visitors and volunteers on these days. If you had planned to be on campus one of these days for any reason, please reach out to the appropriate teacher or staff member to see if we can make alternative arrangements.

    4) Finally, if we opt to have indoor dismissal due to rain on any of the remaining school days, all students who walk, bike, or are parent pick-up will be escorted to the cafeteria first, and then will exit the front of the building. Bus riders will be the only students exiting the Speidel Drive (south) side of the building. Parents, if you are walking up to collect your child, you will need to sign in (remember your ID for Raptor) and come to the cafeteria where teachers will be waiting with students.

    Rocket Families,

We had a jam-packed week to start off the month of May. We began with our GT showcase, then welcomed new Rockets with Kindergarten and Preschool Registration, hosted our final Book Fair of the year, and pulled off four performances of Aladdin to end the school week. Then, our Rockets in 2nd through 5th grade competed in math pentathlon Saturday, and our Rocket artists were featured in the spring art show at the public library. Way to go, Rowe!

This week is Teacher Appreciation week, and I cannot say enough about the uncommon heart and talent that drives the educational excellence here at Rowe Lane. Complemented by phenomenally supportive parents and community, our school truly is exceptional, and it is a privilege to be a part of the Rowe Lane Way. There is more to come in the next four weeks, so read on for details!

Closed Campus on State Testing Days
To ensure an appropriate testing environment for our students, our campus will be closed to visitors and volunteers on State Testing days. If you had planned to visit campus for lunch or for any other reason on the following dates, please reach out to your child's teacher to make alternative arrangements. State Testing (STAAR) days: Tue., Apr. 9; Wed., Apr. 10; Mon., May 13; Tue., May 14; Wed., May 15.

    Absences
There is a clear connection between regular school attendance and your child’s learning. We put a great deal of effort into helping our children remain healthy and happy at school so that they are able and eager to attend. When a child is sick and must be home, we ask that you please contact the teacher that day if possible. A doctor note or parent note should be brought to school when your child returns, and an email from you to the teacher and our registrar, Quinlyn.Barnette@pfisd.net, is acceptable for a parent note.

    Rocket Families,

I hope that all of our families made it safely through the severe weather this past weekend as I know many neighbors in the Falcon Pointe and Blackhawk Community were effected. In case you were unaware, please know that we review safety protocols often at school with the adults and students, including what to do in case of severe weather. As April and May unfold, know that Rowe Lane is one of the safest places to be should the weather act up.

This week we have our first state testing (STAAR) days on Tuesday and Wednesday. STAAR scores do not define success here at Rowe, and we do our best to prepares students for challenges above and beyond what is assessed. Please know that we do encourage our students to do their best and try to show what they learned this year, but we make the day as stress-free as possible. You can help maintain that atmosphere without even acknowledging that it is a testing day. Making sure your child gets to be at a decent time the night before and has breakfast and lunch needs taken care of in the morning is all he or she needs.

As a reminder, we cannot accommodate visitors or even volunteers on testing days, so if you had planned to be on campus, please out to the appropriate staff member to make other arrangements. Hope to see everyone this Thursday evening for our inaugural Family Game Night!

    Rocket Families,

A HUGE Thank you to all our volunteers who helped with our Spring Fling Clean Up and Community Garage Sale on Saturday! Our flower beds look great, our greenhouse has been relocated to enjoy some greater use, and we helped recycle many hazardous items potentially diverting them from a landfill. Special thanks to our Rowe Lane Girl Scouts, who helped advertise the event last week and pitched in to make it a success. See pictures here.

Congratulations to our Kinder and 1st grade Math Pentathletes, who competed in a tournament this past Saturday. Ms. Aniol and Ms. Ainsworth shared how proud they were of our students and how many compliments they received for their kindness, patience, and sportsmanship. Way to go, Rowe!

Read on for details of happenings this first part of April.
