This is our final week before we step away for a Thanksgiving week-long break.  We have many things to cover instructionally, and look forward to a productive week.  Our Leader In Me Habit for November is ‘Put First Things First’.  This is a perfect goal to help us remember that we work hard first, and play after our work is done.  We hope you are planning some exciting ways to ‘play’ while you have a week to enjoy family and friends.

    PTO Mtg-TUES NOV 14th WPS 5:30 pm :

Please join us for our monthly PTO meeting at WPS at 5:30.  We are in search of a PTO President, and additional volunteers if you are available.

    FUNDRAISER PICK-UP THURS-NOVEMBER 16th WPS:

The WPS & WES Fundraiser items will be delivered and available for pick-up on Thursday at WPS for ALL Windermere students.  Please make arrangements to pick up your items on this day, as many items need to be refrigerated, and we do not have a way to store items not picked up.

DROP OFF A PIE THIS FRIDAY:

PTO sends home pies with our hard working staff on Friday, November 17th  as gift of appreciation for the Holidays.  If you are able, please drop by a homemade or store bought pie to WES by this Friday.  Thank you for appreciating the teachers that make a difference every day!

    PROGRESS REPORTS HOME FRIDAY :

Please be on the lookout for your child’s progress report this Friday.

    BUDDY READING :

WES students will head next door on Friday, where every student is partnered with a WPS student for Buddy Reading.  We will conduct this Buddy Reading positive experience three more times this school year.  Check out the Windermere Facebook pages to see pics of this culture building activity.

WEDNESDAYS AT WES WE ARE COLLEGE & CAREER BOUND:

Each Wednesday students and staff are encouraged to wear a t-shirt that represents their favorite college, university, or higher education of choice.  Our staff work hard to support all students’ participation by reaching out to local universities and scouring thrift shops for t-shirts.  If you can donate, or find a t-shirt for your student, we can all support this initiative to dream BIG!

    THURSDAY-STUDENT PICTURE DAY:

All students will have their individual pictures taken on Thursday.  You can purchase these pics in advance, and re-takes will be November 9th.

    MONEY :

Please have your students take all money for school purposes to their classroom teacher.  This includes money for the cafeteria.  Teachers provide a lunch count daily and can ensure the money is issued accordingly.  This keeps the cafeteria line moving efficiently in the mornings and during lunch.

    Leader In Me Brag Tags:

WES and WPS are in the process of becoming Leader In Me Schools.  This is an exciting opportunity to develop Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective Children in each of our staff and students.  We are implementing “Brag Tags” as one way for our children to showcase their accomplishments toward these 7 habits.  This month our habit is “Be Proactive”.  Students wear their “Brag Tags” on Friday, and are all working toward being caught practicing the learned habit and earning their tag.  I will share a more in depth communication about what our students and staff will be working on this year.

DISMISSAL: I will also send a separate communication home

We have started our process of handing out Parent Pick Up Cards that have the Teacher Name, Grade, place for you to write in your Student’s Name, and are color coded for ease in connecting you with your students and as an extra layer of safety.   We are happy to provide you with as many cards as you need.  You can give a set to others that regularly pick up  your children, or to put into two different vehicles so you won’t have to remember the cards daily. These will also be made available at Open House.

ASCEND will be dismissed @ 2:35 daily.

    3rd & 5th grade will be dismissed @ 2:40 daily, and 4th will come out at 2:45.

We will be stationed at dismissal with students until 3:00.  Any student that has not been picked up by 3:00 will be brought inside until parents arrived and sign out the student.

There are a couple of safety rules to keep in mind for student safety: Please do not park in the car lane, as we need to keep that traffic moving and there are no left turns onto Picadilly during arrival or dismissal.

    WES OPEN HOUSE SUCCESS:

Thank you for coming out last Tuesday and visiting your child’s classroom, getting to know their routines and previewing what they will be learning this year.  We had a great turn out, we hope up left feeling great after some one on one time with the teachers.

    ARRIVAL:

Doors open at 7:10 a.m. daily for students.  Breakfast is free daily to all students.

Morning Convocation (Assembly) begins in the gym at 7:30 daily.  Students arriving after the 7:40 a.m. tardy bell will still have access to a sack breakfast they can take to their classroom, as to not miss instructional time.

Last week was full of learning and celebrating our students!  We hope to see you this Tuesday for Open House!

    WINDERMERE PTO MEETING, TUESDAY 5:30-6:00:

Please join us for the PTO meeting hosted at WPS before Open House on Tuesday from 5:30-6:00.  There are so many opportunities available in the PTO to help make this the best school year yet!

    WES OPEN HOUSE, TUESDAY 6:00-7:30:

Please join us and spend some time in your child’s classroom getting to know their routines and what they will be learning this year.  This is a chance to hear from your child’s teacher, and ask any clarifying questions that you might have.  This is a come and go event, and you can stay as long or as little as you need to feel comfortable about this school year! I can’t wait to see you!

    DOT DAY FRIDAY-WEAR DOTS:

Please feel free to dress your child in dots in any form (socks, shirt, pants, etc.) on Friday, September, 15th, as WES celebrates International Dot day.

The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe.

    DISMISSAL:

We will begin handing out Parent Pick Up Cards that have the Teacher Name, Grade, place for you to write in your Student’s Name, and are color coded for ease in connecting you with your students and as an extra layer of safety.   We are happy to provide you with as many cards as you need.  You can give a set to others that regularly pick up  your children, or to put into two different vehicles so you won’t have to remember the cards daily. These will also be made available at Open House.

All other grade levels will begin dismissing @ 2:40 daily.

    MILLION FATHER MARCH :

Thank you to everyone that came out to the 3rd Annual Windermere Million Father March.  It was such an amazing event, and the first of many evets where WES partnered with WPS.  If you want to see pics and video from the event, please join us on Windermere Elementary Facebook Page.

    GRANDPARENT’S DAY LUNCHEON:

Thank you to all of the families that participated in our exciting celebration of Grandparent’s day on Friday.  We had an AMAZING turn out, and the weather was perfect for outside lunch as well.  Please join us for lunch as it fits in your schedule throughout the year.  Children are only in Elementary school once, and they enjoy feeling special with family visitors.

    STAAR SCORES:

If your child was in 3rd or 4th gr at WES last year, STAAR results went home in their TUESDAY folders on Sept. 5th.  If you have any questions about these results, please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher, or Admin, and we are happy to assist.

STAAR results are also available for individual students and can be found by logging into the TEA student portal.

To access the TEA Student Portal, parents will need to find their student’s unique access code.

Your student’s unique access code can be obtained by logging into the FOCUS Parent Portal.
