    Every month, the Pflugerville ISD Board of Trustees turn the spotlight on students and staff members in recognition of their hard work. Additionally, student leaders from one of the district’s 31 campuses are chosen to lead the Board and attendees in the Pledges of Allegiance to the United States and Texas.

    Murchison pledge 2017

    In May 2017, Murchison Elementary students led the audience in the U.S. and Texas pledges to start the meeting. These students included (l. to r.) Joshua Gonzales, Zachary Gottschalk and Aurawyn Brunner.

     

    Destination Imagination - Timmerman Elementary

    Two PfISD Destination Imagination teams advanced to the Global Finals competition. From Timmerman Elementary School, the "Silent But Deadlies" team qualified for Global Finals in the Ready, Willing and Fable category. The team is Luna Garcia, Angelina Gawlik, Bryce Howard, Helga Mueller, and Frankie O'Shaughnessy.

     

    Destination Imagination - Pflugerville ES

    Two PfISD Destination Imagination teams advanced to the Global Finals competition. From Pflugerville Middle School, the "Legendary Apple Doom Skullz" team qualified for the Global Finals in the Show and Tech category. The team is Elena Howard, Carmen Garcia, Rudolf Bendixon, Kenneth Kalu, and Astrid Quezeda.

     

     Duke TIP state honorees

    Each year, PfISD counselors submit names of 7th grade students, based on qualifying TAKS scores, to the Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP). They are invited to take the ACT or the SAT as 7th graders. Duke TIP determines the qualifying scores for state recognition based on national percentile rankings. Qualifying for state recognition from Kelly Lane MS: Pranit Arya, Hannah Bailey, Marjorie Bracamontez, and Janessa Kumpati. Qualifying from Park Crest MS is Trey Snowberger. Qualifying from Pflugerville MS: Isabella Hopkins, Henry Lara, Lamisa Mahmud, and Zane Farrow. Qualifying from Westview Middle School is Anthony Rojas.

    PMS Science Fair winners

    Four students from Pflugerville Middle School placed in the top three in their categories at the Austin Energy Regional Science Festival State Competition. Lamisa Mahmud, Ngoc Tran and Bethany Wong took second place in Cellular and Molecular Biology with their project "Characteristics of Transformed Drug Resistant E. coli." Bethany also earned a Broadcom Masters Award. Sage Dunlap took third place in Mathematics with her project "Clean Energy as a Catalyst for Economic and Environmental Growth."

     

    FCCLA National Competition - Pflugerville High School

    Students from Pflugerville High School qualified for the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America National Competition. Nadia Islam's project was Chapter in Review Portfolio. Ferhana Ahmed's and Ailani Elizandro's project was Promote and Publicize FCCLA Occupational.

     

    UIL State Art Gold Medalists - Hendrickson High School

    Four Hendrickson High School students received gold medals at the UIL State Art Visual Arts Scholastic Event competition. All four received the highest score possible. This included Savannah Contreras (AP Ceramics), Samuel Perales (Drawing 3), Rumor Stojek (Ceramics), and Amanda Usry (Ceramics 2).

     

    May Employee of the Month - Bella Hooks, Park Crest Middle School

    PfISD Professional Employee of the Month for May, Bella Hooks (instructional coach at Park Crest MS) was recognized. 

     

    6A Girl's State Soccer Champions - Hendrickson High School

    For the first time in Hendrickson HS history, an athletics team earned a state championship. The HHS girls soccer team won the 6A UIL State title by defeating Katy Tompkins 2-0 in the final match in Georgetown. Pictured are Makenna Garcia, Kiersty Shepherd, Maya Dossing, Kensley Martin, Madison Kusano, Juliana Rotan, Holly Buchanan, Brianna Binkowski, Christina Arteaga, Dalton Fish, Jenna Hartle, Kenzie Arrington, Ana Chittenden, Brooke Hebert, Kayla Geren, Riley Pfannenstiel, and Makayla Rodriguez. Head coach is Rennie Rebe. Assistant coaches are Jacob Stern and Sarah Cunningham. Athletic trainer is Scot Chambers.

    RLES pledge

    In April 2017, Rowe Lane Elementary students led the audience in the U.S. and Texas pledges to start the meeting. These students included Morgan Erickson, Lucas Lackey, Dylan Patrick, Sophia Piña, Ashlyn Rodriguez, Obi Ugboajah and Addi Villegas.

     

    CHS TAFE

    Connally HS students placed at the annual Texas Association of Future Educators State Conference. The students are Perla Estrada and Juliana Hedges (1st Place, Chapter Scrapbook); Juliana also placed 3rd in Project Visualize - Fundraiser; Gabby Chavez and Ada Vazquez, 1st Place, Bulletin Board; 2nd Place - Project Visualize - Leadership.

    NMS Finalists 2017

    Two Pflugerville ISD high school seniors have earned National Merit Scholarship Finalist designation: Elizabeth Ross (Hendrickson HS) and Andrea Orji (Pflugerville HS). Of approximately 1.5 million entrants each year, only some 15,000 are named Finalists in the program.

     

    German Competition 2017

    Students from PfISD high schools placed in the top three at the Texas State German Competition. The Hendrickson HS Classical Ensemble team took first place. Team members were (l. to r.) Sawyer Cowan, Autumn Long and David Nichols. From Connally HS, Samantha Miller took third place in Needlework.

     

    All State Band 2017

    Students from Hendrickson HS were named to the Texas Music Educators' Association All-State Band. This included: Julius Calvert, Alexa Cherry, Bennett McCullough, Daniel Schulze, Logan Seaton, Declan Simpson and Hannah Weber. They are holding a framed drum cover from the HHS Band's participation in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade - 2016.

     

    UIL Filmmakers 2017

    A film produced by five Pflugerville HS students placed third in the state in the Division 2 Documentary category of the UIL Young Filmmakers Festival. Students who worked on the film included (l. to r.): Arnold Icaro, Trinh Le, Emily Marshall, Ian McClure and An Nguyen.

     

     PHS Girls Basketball 2017

    The Pflugerville HS girls basketball team advanced to the UIL State tournament in San Antonio, placing third in the state for the 6A classification. The team includes Samariae Bonds, Sheridan Bostic, London Clarkson, Cortney Cross, Jasmin Gaskin, Taylor Govan-Williams, Khala Hanson, Aureana Hill, Kennedi Hodge, Kiera King, Starr Omozee, Britney Onyeje, Kayla Sparks, Jazmyn Stevens and Khiana Willis. Student assistants are Darlyn Alcorn, Anageli Balbino, Jeremy Lopez and Nancy Hidalgo. The team is coached by April Hundl, De DeShay and Kirk Wrinkle.

    Parmer Lane Elementary was recognized for earning all possible STAAR distinctions from the Texas Education Agency for three consecutive years - from 2014-2016. Representing PLES were Cherrie Taylor, counselor; Noe Ortiz, assistant principal; Barry Miller, principal; and Irene Morales, instructional coach.

    Timmerman Elementary students Julia Mueller, Maddie Worley, Gabriel Cancino, and Martin Thai led the pledge to the United States and Texas flags, respectively.

     

    Special Olympics

    The district's award-winners from the sixth competition at the State Special Olympics were honored at the Board meeting. Several Hendrickson HS students were recognized, including (l. to r.) swimmer Benji Garcia (4th place in 25-meter backstroke, 5th place in 25-meter freestyle, 5th place in 50-meter freestyle), golfer William Mullican (bronze medal), swimmer Dalton Anthony (2nd place in 25-meter freestyle, 3rd place in 50-meter freestyle), golfer Auggie Zippe (gold medal), golfer Daulton Swenson (silver medal), golfer Hiro Jones (silver medal), and golfer Dylan Teague (silver medal).

     

    EOMs November 2016

    PfISD Employees of the Month were recognized. These inaugural awards went to (l. to r.) Jennifer Davis, staff accountant in the finance department, and Rebecca Wright, special education teacher at Timmerman Elementary.

     

    Finance Department

    PfISD's finance department was recognized for several recent awards, including the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Association of School Business Officials; and the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (for the 7th consecutive year) from the Government Finance Officers Association. The department also achieved a Superior rating from the Texas Education Agency's 2016 School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST).     National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholars were recognized at the Board meeting. This included HHS students: Vanessa Gonzalez, Jaren Harris and Patricia Ramirez Santos; and PHS students: Jenae Laguna, Taylor Fanely-Luevano, and Jeremy Garcia.

     

    National Merit Scholars

    Students earning National Merit Scholarship Program Semi-Finalist and Commended status were recognized at the Board meeting. This included Semi-Finalists Liz Ross (HHS) and Andrea Orji (PHS); and Commended students Noelle Bowers (HHS), Jagadesh Lagisetty (HHS), Dominique Tran (CHS); Angel Cheng (PHS), Arnold Icaro (PHS), Carli Jorgenson (PHS), Justine Le (PHS), Sahaj Shah (PHS), Emery Stokes (PHS), David Calabuig (PHS), and Angie Tsai (PHS).
