Let me offer a big thanks to the members of our Spring Hill family, and to our SHES PTO, for braving the chilly temperatures on Saturday (which, incidentally, was very odd for late April) to enjoy some togetherness at the Spring-Fest! When you see Mrs. Perez, let her know just what an awesome job she has been doing with the Shark Choir Club, who performed like champs at the festival.

We are steadily building up for the last round of STAAR testing in two weeks. Keep ‘em read, fed and well rested and SHES will take care of the rest. Have a great week!

    Dr. Troy Pitsch,
    Principal

    Many Thanks to Our Pfriends!

Many students in PfISD go hungry over the weekend when school meal programs do not operate. Backpack Pfriends is a partnership between local churches and Pflugerville ISD that is designed to provide nutritious foods to economically disadvantaged students within Pflugerville ISD. SHES would like to thank our “Pfriends” at the First Baptist Church in Pflugerville for sponsoring our campus in this endeavor, and fighting the war against hunger with love.

    Dress Code Reminder

Just a reminder with that with the warm weather comes the task of dressing comfortably for school. Please check your student’s attire before they leave home each morning. Hemlines for shorts and skirts must extend past fingertips with hands at the sides. Muscle shirts and cutoffs are not considered appropriate for school. Strapless or spaghetti strap tops must be covered, and no undergarments of any kind should be visible while on school grounds. Students will need to correct dress code concerns in the nurse’s office when they do occur.

    Flip That School

We have a huge surprise awaiting our students and families when they come back from the summer break. We have been meeting with contractors who are going to finish a massive number of upgrades (About $3 million worth) to our school, which will include new flooring, carpets, paint, bathroom fixtures, and probably a few other things I forgot to list. This is the final component of the bond package that was passed back in 2014 and we can’t wait to see how great Shark-land is going to look when they’re all finished up!

Student Attendance is a Big Deal!

Researchers and educators agree that student attendance is one significant indicator of a child’s success in school. We encourage parents and guardians to be thoughtful of this when scheduling vacations, appointments, and other events that may require a student to miss all or part of a school day.

    Please Watch Your Speed

Each day we have a full parking lot, both in the morning and the afternoon, as our students are arriving and leaving our school. Please remember to drive carefully through the lot and watch for students and their parents so we can ensure that all students have a safe commute.

What began as a building full of strangers several years ago became a building full of family to me. As some may have already become aware, I have accepted a position outside of Texas and will be turning this campus over to the capable hands of Mrs. Camille Ramirez-Longoria at the end of the 2016-17 school year. While I am not yet prepared to begin saying good-bye to so many friends, I’ve spent the last four years giving thanks for the opportunity to be a part of something as special as Spring Hill Elementary.

Please help us to ensure that our students finish strong this last six weeks by including time for reading in their evening routines each night. We look forward to seeing all of you at this week’s events, so mark your calendars!

    Mark Your Calendar with ‘Fun’

Next Saturday the Spring Hill Family will be coming together to celebrate the great season of spring with our annual SHES Spring-Fest from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. all over our campus! Be sure to plan on bringing the family out to enjoy food, fun and activities for all our Spring Hill Family!

We would like to thank all our families who came out for the SHES PTO Family Movie Night on Friday. Things are just better when the family comes together, and we look forward to the next adventure, which I believe is the Spring Festival coming up on the 22nd. In the meantime, we want everyone to feel welcome to come join your student for lunch and take advantage of some of this nice weather (excluding Monday and Tuesday which are supposed to be rain-soaked).

Enjoy the short week, and be sure to include reading time each night this week for kids to grow. See you soon!

I just noticed on the calendar that we are down to only eight weeks of school remaining for the 2016-17 academic year. I am still having trouble believing that the end of the year is that close. It must be all the hard work and fun everyone is deep into at SHES. I am glad to report that we had an absolute flawless first round of STAAR testing this week and I want to thank our parents and families for making this possible. We still have one more round in early May, so expect some heavy lifting from our teachers and students between now and then to get us completely prepared for this.

As for small blessings, it looks like SHES dodged April Fools Day this year and got some rain over the weekend to help things stay green and beautiful. I can’t wait to see the bluebonnets in full bloom. I also cannot wait to see each one of you over the next few weeks here at SHES. Come join us for lunch and be the highlight of your student’s day at school for an afternoon. We will see you soon!

    SHES Movie Night this Friday

This Friday evening the SHES PTO will be hosting a Family Movie Night beginning at 6 p.m. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. so you can get a great seat and hit the concession stand before the feature film begins. Can’t wait to see you there!

We want to share our thanks to the parents and family that came out for the POPS/STAAR Rally on Friday afternoon. It was a lot of fun seeing the kids get so pumped up and thinking positive about the STAAR Test. I also want to extend a special thanks to our staff who went out of their way to make STAAR as fun as the law allows. It really feels good to see all of our moving parts working so well at Spring Hill Elementary!

Don’t forget that the campus will be closed to visitors on Tuesday and Wednesday because of testing. Take some time to read with your student each night and have a wonderful week!

As a result, the campus will be closed to visitors on those two days. If your student is scheduled for testing this week, please be sure they are rested and ready for this big challenge!

And we’re back! It feels like winter has made its last appearance and the month of March is going to be gone before you know it. I hope everyone had a restful time off and we look forward to seeing our students back on campus tomorrow morning. That rest will come in handy because we are entering one of the most challenging parts of the school year. Don’t be worried though…our teachers and students have been preparing all year long for what is headed our way.

Just a quick reminder that our first round of STAAR testing is about a week away and we will have a couple days where the campus will be closed to visitors. Until then, enjoy the awesome weather and the remaining time with family and friends!

Well here we are staring down the prospect of a week off from school and getting lots of rest before we move into STAAR testing. Although our kids are ready for this challenge I am grateful that we will all have some time to spend with family and friends before we start hitting homeruns everywhere. The calendar is a little slow for the week, but expect the pace to pick up substantially on the other side of Spring Break 2017.

Remember to have your students check out some fresh library books to read over the break, and take the opportunity to come visit us for lunch sometime during this week!

SHES Federal School Report Card for the 2015-16 School Year can be found on our homepage using the following link. If you have questions or would like a hard copy, please come by the front office or make an appointment to visit with Dr. Pitsch at 512 594-5410.

STAAR Testing Season is just around the corner and we need your help. We will need lots of bottled water for students to use during their tests, so please know we are grateful for any bottled water our families can donate. Please drop them off at the front office anytime.

    Please Watch Your Speed

Each day we have a full parking lot, both in the morning and the afternoon, as our students are arriving and leaving our school. Please remember to drive carefully through the lot and watch for students and their parents so we can ensure that all students have a safe commute.

Posted by Marcial Guajardo at 2/20/2017

On Friday evening at the annual African-American History Celebration, our students pushed back against the concept of a nation divided. In spite of the deluge of negative messages coming from the media that frame current events in binaries, allowing only one side to emerge as the winner, Spring Hill Elementary students stood strong in their mission to contribute positivity and hope to their community.

In our school, diversity unites rather than divides us, and if you attended the event you know exactly what I mean. I would like to offer a special thanks to Mrs. Elaine Mosely, a career public educator, who travelled many miles to deliver her message of optimism and courage to our students. Additionally, we thank the community for such a large turnout and the energy you helped us build with our students.

Although the events slow down a little this week, we are not letting up with our intensity about ensuring we are delivering the best instruction for our students. Tomorrow we will spend the day getting sharper in our practices and look forward to seeing the students, and each of you, back on campus Tuesday.

    Dr. Troy Pitsch,
    Principal

    Don’t Forget!

The students have the day off tomorrow while your SHES Teaching Team spends some time getting better, stronger, and faster to the point where the Six Million Dollar Man asks us for private tutoring. We will see everyone back on Tuesday!

    Feeling a Little Chicken?

Tomorrow from 5 to 8 p.m. you can get your chicken fix at Chick-Fil-A at Stone Hill and help the Spring Hill PTO raise money for our students. Sharkie has asked me to give you all extra encouragement to come out and support our school lest they decide to switch their franchise over to “Shark-Fil-A”.

    Congratulations!

It is my great honor to announce the Spring Hill Elementary Teacher of the Year and Humanitarian of the Year. Please join us in celebrating our best among the awesome Spring Hill team:

    • Teacher of the Year: Mrs. Allyson Patterson

Mrs. Patterson joined our 5th grade team in the 2014-15 school year and quickly earned the love and admiration of both her students and colleagues. Allyson has practiced strong instruction for her students and demonstrated solid leadership within the ELA department from the moment of her arrival.

This year she was appointed to be the 5th grade Team Leader and has continued to be a consistent and reliable anchor in that role. The Spring Hill staff has voiced admiration for her calm disposition in the fast-paced environment of our school and know her to be an excellent teacher with the ability to face down any challenge that impedes the forward progress of her students. Her energy, warm personality, and unwavering devotion to our Sharks has earned her this prestigious award.

Thank you, Mrs. Patterson, for your incredible contributions and dedication to Spring Hill Elementary!

    • Humanitarian of the Year: Mrs. Daisy Luna

Mrs. Luna became our Title I Parent Liaison at the beginning of the 2015 school year and the impact of her talents was immediately felt across the campus and Spring Hill Community alike. Daisy has arrived each day to serve as the oil that keeps all the parts of our campus machine running flawlessly. Further, her welcoming smile has greeted Spring Hill students, parents and visitors each day and she has worked tirelessly to enhance the connection between our school and the community we serve with great success.

In their voting submissions, the SHES team has been loud and clear about her resourcefulness in her position and her ability to handle things in a pinch before they get the chance to become challenges to our important work. Her total devotion to the Spring Hill Elementary community through service to our children and families has earned her this year’s title.

We recognize Mrs. Luna this year for her amazing success as the welcoming face for our school!
