Spring Hill Elementary students constantly give us things to toot our horns about! Our Dual Language UIL Team has returned from the district Spanish Spelling Bee with a second place finish among the nine Spanish Language campuses in PfISD. Way to be SHARKS! Next year we will take home the gold!

A special thanks to our parents and guardians who helped to return all the forms from the St. David’s Dental Health Screening this year. We had a 100 percent return rate on the opt-out forms which earned our school $1,000 for the effort! Thanks to all.

Looks like the temperature will be moving up and down the thermometer this week, so please be sure your child is dressed for the morning commute and has a jacket to wear when students are outside at recess. We will see you soon!

We want to encourage you to write your child’s name and grade on their coats and jackets that come to school in case they leave them somewhere. It makes it much easier to return these items to their owners, so please consider labeling your student’s personal property.

Today we celebrate the life and contributions of the great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., architect of the 1960’s national movement for equality and unity for all Americans regardless of group membership. His time on this earth was too short, while his mission against intolerance remains with us today. On this day especially we are reminded of a difficult question: Have we carried on his work or have we squandered these years, distracted by the message falsely proclaiming that we have arrived? History will be the judge of how we prepared our students to further the work of Dr. King to its completion.

We have a few events coming up on the calendar, so please come and be with us when these opportunities arrive. The only thing more glorious than celebrating our students is doing it when all of us are together. Have a great week!

We have officially begun the second half of our school year, and it was wonderful to have everyone back at Spring Hill Elementary! Our students were so amazing this week in their behavior and focus on learning, and it seemed like we never even had a break by the way everyone picked up where we left off at the end of 2016. As we move through the next several busy months, I would like to thank everyone in advance for their continued support of Spring Hill Elementary.

January is making a point of reminding us it is winter with chilly temperatures. Please make note than on frigid days we will elect to dismiss students from inside the building. Our parents did a great job with this on Friday and we want to thank you for your patience with the process. Have a great week!

St. David’s Dental Van will be coming on Jan. 9-11. Your student will be screened unless they return the “opt out” flyer indicating you do not want your student to be screened. Students in need of treatment will receive a consent form to take home. Please return all consent forms even if you say no to treatment. The consent forms will not have the exact treatment to be done. However most treatments consist of sealants and addressing cavities. If you have any questions about this awesome service St. David’s gives our school, please contact Nurse Mahn at 512-594-5400.

    Attention 5th Grade Parents

We will be coming together to discuss this year’s fifth grade graduation ceremony and festivities this Thursday at 6:15 p.m. in the SHES library. If you have a fifth grade student, you will want to make this meeting to find out all the important information pertaining to this year’s graduation. We want to continue to make this special for our students, and want you to be a part of this.

I want to begin this Sentinel by wishing all of our Spring Hill Elementary family a Happy New Year! We are hopeful that everyone had a wonderful and restful holiday break filled with family time and togetherness with the ones you love. If you didn’t catch the date, Spring Hill Elementary will re-open its doors at 7 a.m. on Tuesday to receive our awesome Sharks!

As you may know, things really pick up quickly for the second semester as we prepare our campus for our state assessments. Student attendance is everything during this period, so keep the kids bundled up and healthy while the weather is chilly. We can’t wait to see everyone back Jan. 3. Have a great week!

Our students continue their progress towards making a year or more of academic growth. You can see it in their work displayed in the halls, and the fantastic things we see them doing during our classroom visits. Nothing can stop our Sharks, and the world is theirs!

We have a lot of things coming up on the calendar in the next two weeks, so take a look and plan on coming out to be with us. Don’t forget to have your Sharks read nightly for 20 minutes as a way to settle in for a good night’s rest. Have a great week!

Did we even have November this year? When I look at the calendar I can see that December is coming to meet us in just a few days. You know what they say about time and having fun though. I guess it speaks to the level of fun we build into the Spring Hill Elementary experience for our students. Time to sprint to the tape as we end the first semester!

Spring Hill Elementary was quite busy this week, and we want to thank our parents and families for enduring the extra traffic on Tuesday while we hosted as an election site for the community.  Also, thank you for joining us on Thursday morning for a beautiful Veterans Day Ceremony. The performances by our students and staff were memorable, and it was a great honor to have Sgt. Wallingford share his moving story with all of us. I am certain that he and all of our veterans will be remembered for their incredible sacrifice to keep this great nation free.

Don’t forget that this Thursday is our Thanksgiving meal in the cafeteria, so please feel welcome to come join your student for lunch that afternoon.  Please call our office to get more information and specific grade-level lunchtimes if you need them. Have a great week!

    Can’t wait until it’s 5 Below!

During the weekend of Dec. 2-4, any purchases made at 5 Below will send 10 percent of it to our SHES PTO! That is a great way to knock out some holiday shopping and support the school at the same time! Be watching for a flyer coming home with your student very soon!

Please Be Reminded that the school building will be closed next week (Nov. 21-25) for the holiday. Also note that SHES is not open for students to enter until 7 a.m. As the weather gets colder any students waiting outside will need to be dressed appropriately.

It is such a pleasure to see so many parents and family come to Spring Hill to support their students whether it is for a quick lunch, parent conferences, or to attend school events. Thank you very much for taking such an active role in the Spring Hill Elementary experience!

Don’t forget that we are having our SHES Veterans Day celebration this Thursday. We invite all veterans and their families to join us for this wonderful event. See you soon!

    Get Your Chicken On!

Our PTO has made special arrangements with two local Chicken Restaurants and will hold SHES Spirit Night at each of them two weeks in a row! On Tuesday, go and give Raising Cane’s Chicken (Out by Stone Hill across from the water park) any time between 5-9 p.m. and tell them you are with Spring Hill Elementary. Cane’s will give us back a percentage of their profits!  What a deal…awesome chicken and free money for our school!

SHES is a Voting Site this Tuesday. Expect a crowded parking lot, more traffic than usual, and some changes to our normal routines as Spring Hill Elementary does its part to support our nation’s election processes. Since we’re on the subject, be sure to get out and vote.

    SHES Veterans Day Assembly

We invite all veterans from the Spring Hill Community to come and be celebrated for the heroes you are! We will be holding a celebration on Friday, Nov. 10 in our gym beginning at 9 a.m. Our guest speaker for the event is a former Green Beret who has a fascinating story about his experiences in the Vietnam War, which include being held several months as a POW in the jungles of Cambodia. He will be carrying with him a very important message about the price of freedom.  Please join us, and feel free to come in uniform so that we can thank you personally for your service to our country.

    Fundraiser Reminder

Please be sure to send all funds received through our candy bar fall fundraiser with your student to turn in on Monday.

  • Four events to know about

Posted by Marcial Guajardo at 11/3/2016

    Spring Hill Families,

We have four events on the horizon I wanted to get on your calendars if they aren’t already there:

    • On Friday, we have two events. At 1:45 p.m. we will be holding our first POPS Rally for second-fifth grade students in the gym. Please feel welcome to come attend this celebration of our student achievements! Later that evening at 5:30 p.m. we will be holding our Day of the Dead Celebration. If you don’t know what this looks like, it is a fascinating perspective into the way cultures from outside of the US celebrate their deceased. It’s worth the time to come see what this looks like!
    • Thursday, Nov. 10 at 9 a.m. is our Veteran’s Day celebration in the cafeteria. All are welcome to come join as we salute the defenders of this nation’s freedom.
    • Next Friday, Nov. 11, at 5:30 p.m. is our Free Family Movie Night! Doors and concessions open first, and the movie will begin at 6 p.m. sharp!

Yes…we just like to keep things exciting at SHES! Please let us know if you have any questions.

    Very truly yours,

    Troy Pitsch, Ph.D.
    Principal, Spring Hill Elementary School
