The Mustang Roundup Committee WILL NOT ask Parents for a lot of different donations this year for the Roundup like in past years with donating for general concessions, books, plants and cakes for games, or other items….

Instead, we would like our parents to focus ONLY on donating towards your child’s classroom baskets for the Silent Auction AND assist your child’s teacher with selling raffle tickets as part of  the Mustang Roundup Fundraiser.  We will handle the rest of the needed supplies for the Roundup through our donors and sponsors!  We do need your help to hit our goal for our largest fundraiser, the Mustang Roundup with our Raffle Ticket Sales with prizes that EVERYONE is talking about!

The TOP 5 Classrooms will receive their choice of Awesome Rewards for the Most Raffle Tickets sold from now through the end of the day on Friday, October 21st.  Please help your child’s classroom earn extended recess, a Popsicle party or popcorn party along with your teacher winning a special reward that they deserve!  You can either purchase raffle tickets from your teacher directly (send check, cash or go online to purchase at https://squareup.com/store/murchison-elementary-pto

AND/OR get a packet of tickets to sell to your co-workers, your friends, family, etc.  If every parent at Murchison purchases or sells 5 raffle tickets, we would hit our goal!  As we know, not everyone has time to actively sell tickets, so for those that cannot invest much time in selling tickets,  if you send your child to school with $20, we will send your child home with 5 raffle tickets for a chance to win some AWESOME PRIZES!  5 Raffle Tickets means you could WIN ALL 5 PRIZES!!!!   Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20.  Here is the list of our Prizes we are raffling:

An IPad Pro w/ ITunes GC, IPad Case and Apple Pencil and ITunes GC ($1,000 Value)

The Newest Apple Watch w/ Warranty 38mm ($600 value)

The Newest Apple Watch w/ Warranty 42mm ($650 value)

Monstrous Outdoor Grill with Propane, Charcoal, Smoker’s box, and Burner w/ HEB GC ($700 value)

Apple TV with Netflix subscription & ITunes, GC ($450 value)

We will send envelopes home this week with students to turn in raffle ticket money for your chance to win yourself or your child one of these awesome prizes along with a classroom reward and your teacher earning a much deserved reward as well!  The drawing is live at 4pm during the Mustang Roundup on Saturday, October 22nd and will be broadcast live on the MES PTO Facebook page.  You do not need to be present to win!!!  All prizes will be onsite and available to take home at the time of the drawing!!!

If you are able to help us with our raffle ticket sales, please contact Nicky via phone or text at 512-638-2114 or email 2016mesroundup@gmail.com  so we can get you tickets to sell!  We know that not everyone is able to contribute through purchasing raffle tickets, so if you could ask co-workers, family and friends, we will be able to hit our goal!!!  Please help us raise money for much needed technology, updates to the Literacy Lab and other educational resources for your child, the teachers and the school!!!

We still need our usual volunteers to help set up, assist with activities & games during the Roundup, and clean up!  If you know of anyone that could just give an hour, or two, or three… they will even get a FREE Mustang Roundup Volunteer T-shirt!!!  Please have them go to this link to sign up!

    Dear Mustangs,

As you know, traffic on and around our campus is a challenge, especially during the first few weeks of school. The safety of our students and the families we serve is our top priority, so I want to share with you some information about the traffic flow around our campus.

Many parents appreciate the convenience of using the roads connecting the three-school complex of Hendrickson, Kelly Lane and Murchison. Unfortunately, those roads present a significant safety challenge because of the high volume of students walking, in addition to the cars and buses in the area. We are expecting an additional 700 students to be part of these three campuses, adding even more student walking and parents driving around the area with limited parking due to added learning cottages near HHS.

Campus leaders from all three schools met to address the best way to keep our students safe as they travel to and from campus each day. Consideration was given to the convenience of the cut through, but ultimately our plan was based on the safest choice for our students. We’ve all witnessed near misses between cars and students walking to campus, and we certainly want to do all we can to ensure the safety of your children!

The gate located between Hendrickson High School and KLMS will be closed on school days between 7:35 a.m. and 4 p.m. A map has been included for your reference.

Additionally, I ask that you please refrain from cell phone usage in school zones both before and after school.  This added distraction puts our students at great risk for danger.  Please consider putting aside adult convenience for the safety of our students!

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to manage the traffic flow around our campus.  Please be prepared to be patient and walk great distances to get to campus.

Thank you for your continued support and care for the safety of our students.

    Respectfully,

    Good Morning Mustang Families,

It is hard to believe that we are one week away from another awesome school year!  It has been a fabulous few weeks around Murchison!  The teachers have been busy preparing their classrooms for the students to arrive between sessions created to ensure that we are all continuously improving our practices.  Additionally, we recently had the opportunity to meet our newest Mustangs at Kinder Camp.  This is a valued tradition that is always fun and entertaining to say the least!

In the upcoming week, we will have several events that will prepare us for the big day.

    Calls from the teacher

Teachers will begin calling their students on Wednesday, August 17th after 3:00pm and continue through Thursday evening.  If you miss the call from the teacher, class lists will be posted in the lobby of Murchison for your convenience.  Please do not call the front office regarding a missed call.

Meet the Teacher and Back to School Tailgate

    WHEN: Friday August 19, 2016
    WHERE: MES
    TIME: 5:00 – 6:30 PM

Please join us to Meet the Teacher, grab a bite to eat, mingle with friends you haven’t seen in a while, meet new members of the Murchison Family, and cool down with Kona Ice.  Mr. Pfrank’s will be selling hot dogs, chips and drinks in the cafeteria, and Kona Ice will be parked in the bus loop.  Both vendors will accept cash and possibly credit cards.

The PTO will have the new school t-shirt available to purchase in either crew or V-neck.

If you ordered a school supply kit from SPROUT you will be able to pick it up in the lobby.

Library Pick-Up parent/guardian identity verification cards and Car tags for Car Riders will be available in the main hallway.

    First Day of School

Tuesday, August 23rd is the first day of school.  School officially begins at 7:35 with the tardy bell ringing at 7:40. The building will open at 7:00 to allow students to eat breakfast.  Students and parents will be allowed to make their way to the classrooms at 7:20. Please be mindful that there will be a ton of traffic!  Those living close are strongly encouraged to walk or bike to school if the weather cooperates.

    Parking at MES

If you have not seen the new additions at Hendrickson lately, you might be surprised to find that the parking that MES parents often use when walking kids into school is now home to HHS learning cottages.  Please plan accordingly, as parking is no longer much of an option at Hendrickson.

    3rd Grade Residency Verification

In addition to being a requirement for all newly enrolled students to PfISD, returning students in grades Kindergarten, 3rd, 6th, and 9th must provide proof of residency. This link provides information about the required documentation (pay special attention to columns, A, B, and C on the included table). More information and the request for documentation also will come home with 3rd grade students the first week of school.

    School Supplies

Families are welcome to bring school supplies to Meet the Teacher this Friday, Aug. 19, from 5:00 – 6:30 pm.  As many items such as crayons, markers, scissors, glue, etc are used as community supplies, there is no need to label each item.  Pre-packaged school supplies purchased through the PTO service offered in spring will be available to pick up in the lobby during that time as well.

    Free & Reduced Lunch Applications

Families, we need your help! The Food Services Department again has challenged all schools with our annual friendly competition to see which campus can submit the most applications by OCTOBER 7, 2016. The winning school will receive $500 for school/office supplies. Every school has a chance to win. Applications are accepted two ways:

    1.       Online: available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese at www.myschoolapps.com/Application

    2.      Paper: downloadable files are available at the http://www.pfisd.net/Page/500. Paper files also are available at Rowe Lane and the Food Services Office, (512) 594-0430. Paper forms must be submitted to the school front office or to the Food Services.

    Dear Mustangs,

With August on the horizon, please don’t forget that our fabulous PTO provides a service through Sprout School Supplies to order your school supplies online.  These high quality supplies are boxed with all required materials that will be delivered directly to your child’s classroom.  This opportunity ends July 31st, so don’t delay your one-stop shopping chance.

Visit Sprout School Supplies and specify the grade level box(es) that you need and your child’s supplies will be in their classroom in time for Meet the Teacher on August 19th at 5:00pm.

    Respectfully,
