Mission Statement

The mission of the Wieland Elementary Library is to help our students develop an appreciation of reading by providing quality literature and to assist our students in building information literacy skills that will help them to become life-long learners.

Destiny Online Catalog

The Wieland Library offers over 14,000 books for your reading pleasure, plus we subscribe to various magazines. We have a growing Vietnamese collection to support our Vietnamese bilingual learners! We also have many online resources you can use for homework help or just for fun! All of those resources can be accessed on the Student Resources page and with our Online Catalog.

Student Policies

Students in Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and First Grade are allowed to check out one library book while students in Second Grade through Fifth Grade are allowed to check out two library books. Mid-year, 1st graders may begin to check out 2 books. For all students with a 2 book limit, one of those books will be a free choice book and one book should be an appropriate reading level for the student. Before book checkout can begin, however, each student must return the PISD Elementary Library Policy that is sent home the day of his or her library orientation and be cleared of all previous library fines. The policy is available in Vietnamese as well. Additional copies are available in the library and on the Library Documents page. 4th and 5th graders may check out audio books, called Playaways. Students must get a separate permission slip signed each time they want to check one of these items out. The replacement cost for Playaways is significantly more than a book, which is the reason for the extra precautions.

Accelerated Reader

Wieland Elementary utilizes the Accelerated Reader program to encourage and enhance student reading practices. AR provides teachers, students and parents with an effective way to monitor students’ reading progress. Students read books on their reading level and take computer-based tests over the books that measure their reading comprehension. Our school subscribes to AR Enterprise, which gives us access to more than 125,000 quizzes!

Accelerated Reader is online: http://hosted27.renlearn.com/239854/

  • Students will have individualized reading level ranges, as well as individualized point goals for each semester.

  • Students may take AR quizzes at school, Monday-Friday, from 7:40am - 2:40pm.

Parents can use the HomeConnect feature to monitor the progress of their child. Log-in information for parents will be sent home by classroom teachers once the program is underway this year.

Volunteering is Pfun!

The Wieland Library needs volunteers! There are so many ways you can help in the library.  All volunteers must complete the Pflugerville ISD Volunteer Application before you can start working in the library. Please contact the librarian, Cheryl Chittenden, for more information.
