DMS Hosts AVID Showcase
Administrators from districts all over Texas visited Dessau Middle School to observe the DMS AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program. AVID visitors attended informational sessions, visited classrooms, and heard from student, teacher and parent panels with the goal of taking what they learn from Dessau's model program and implementing it in their own districts.
DMS is an AVID national demonstration school, which means AVID strategies are incorporated throughout every classroom. AVID is a system which helps students develop critical thinking, literacy, and math skills across all content areas through research-based curriculum and strategies.
AVID is implemented in approximately 5,000 schools in 44 states, the District of Columbia, and 16 other countries/territories and impacts more than 800,000 students annually in grades K-12 and postsecondary institutions.
