Dr. Doug Killian Officially Named PfISD Superintendent

May 8, 2017

In a unanimous vote, Pflugerville ISD’s Board of Trustees officially named Dr. Doug Killian as the district’s new Superintendent of Schools during its May 4 board workshop. Dr. Killian, currently Superintendent with Hutto ISD, was announced by the board as the lone finalist in April after an extensive search process. By state law, the hiring process isn’t final until trustees vote following a 21-day waiting period, which expired earlier this week.

Dr. Killian will officially begin his new role on July 1, 2017.

PfISD Board President Vernagene Mott said the Board believes Dr. Killian is a great fit for Pflugerville ISD and will lead the district in addressing its rapid growth while focusing on fulfilling its mission of providing a quality education for all children. Mott praised her fellow Board members for their hard work and dedication in choosing a superintendent candidate.

“We had a strong pool of candidates and Dr. Killian quickly rose to the top,” said Mott. “He met so many of the qualifications that our staff and community indicated were crucial in our next superintendent. His previous experience as a superintendent is a big plus, but his personality and history of leadership and collaboration came shining through during our discussions.”

The Board also cited his impressive academic leadership, servant leadership, and strong civic involvement.

Dr. Killian brings 13 years of superintendent experience to PfISD, serving the last seven years with Hutto ISD.

“I am extremely excited about the opportunity to join the Pflugerville family,” said Dr. Killian. “I’d like to thank the Board of Trustees for their faith and trust. It is a wonderful opportunity to join such an outstanding district and staff.”

Dr. Killian received his doctorate in educational administration from Texas A&M University, his master's degree in educational administration from Texas A&M International University, and his bachelor's degree in political science and history from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University).
