Seven Pflugerville ISD high school students have qualified for the 2019 UIL Swimming and Diving State Championships.
Ana Herceg of Weiss High School, the defending state Class 5A girls 200 freestyle champion, qualified in the Class 5A 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events. Herceg, a sophomore, was state runner-up in the 500 freestyle last year.
Pflugerville High School sends six Class 5A state qualifiers to the meet. Paisley Tramp qualified for the 200-yard intermediate and 100-yard backstroke, while Nicole Willis will compete in two individual events as well – the 200 IM and 500 freestyle.
She and Herceg will be joined in the 500 freestyle by Rylee Worley of the PHS team. Arrianne Wilson will be entered in the 100-yard butterfly, and Justin Schaefer will compete in the Class 5A boys 500 freestyle.
PHS also sends two relay teams – the girls 400-yard freestyle and girls 200-yard freestyle. The PHS 400 freestyle relay team consists of Tramp, Willis, Wilson and Worley, while the 200 freestyle relay team includes Tramp, Willis, Wilson and Natalie Willis.
The UIL Swimming and Diving State Championships take place Feb. 15-16 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin.
Coaches Walter Arnold and Nicole Wuest lead the Pflugerville and Weiss high school teams.
