Day Made Better for Two PISD Teachers
Here's a fact: Every year, teachers spend an average $1,000 of their own money on classroom supplies. That's over $4 billion annually. That's why OfficeMax joined with Adopt-A-Classroom to create A Day Made Better, a one-day event that awards more than 1,100 teachers with over $1,000 in school supplies and brings awareness to their need.
On Tuesday, October 5, two Pflugerville ISD teachers were surprised at school by OfficeMax staff. Kim Cruz at Copperfield Elementary and Tekisha Scott at Delco Primary each received over $1,000 in supplies for their classrooms, including a label maker, a digital camera and a magnetic bulletin board.
"Each year, each OfficeMax store selects a Title 1 school in their area to honor with a contribution. Working with the campus principal, an individual teacher is chosen to receive the school supplies," said PISD Community Partnerships Coordinator Zenda Johnson. "In the past, Pflugerville ISD has only had one Title 1 campus chosen. However, this year, the District was fortunate enough to have two campuses selected."
"A Day Made Better was a wonderful surprise for Mrs. Cruz and her students," said Copperfield Principal Dr. Sandra Bell. "We appreciate OfficeMax for their support of our teacher and our school. OfficeMax really DID make the day better for us!"
Delco Primary Principal Tana Ruckel said, "Teachers spend countless hours and countless amounts of their own money to ensure that their students are getting everything possible to help them be successful. It is so nice to see an area business partner like OfficeMax recognizing teachers and their dedication to education. Tekisha Scott, Delco's 2009-10 Teacher of the Year, constantly strives to ensure that quality education for all students is happening here at Delco Primary."
"Winning A Day Made Better was a complete surprise! I am so thankful that OfficeMax took the time to recognize our dedication to our students." said Scott. "It was the best Tuesday of my life! Mrs. Ayer, our school secretary, went above and beyond to make the day extra special for me. She rearranged our morning assembly and invited my family from out of town. It was amazing!"
