District provides land for new fire station

Pflugerville ISD is finalizing plans for the transfer of three acres of land near Weiss High School to Travis County ESD No. 2 for construction of a new fire station.
The PfISD Board of Trustees recently approved an interlocal agreement between the district and fire department concerning three acres northeast of the Pleasanton Parkway/Weiss Lane intersection.
PfISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Doug Killian proposed the site after learning about the fire department’s plans for a sixth fire station in the area of Weiss High School.
“It just made sense,” Dr. Killian said. “This was an opportunity to help improve the safety of our community for the benefit of residents of all ages, and was especially important to me because as this area of Pflugerville grows, quick response times can potentially save student lives.”
Dr. Killian meets regularly with local public safety officials, including Travis County ESD No. 2 Fire Chief Ron Moellenberg. The idea arose during one of those meetings.
“We were pleasantly surprised and appreciative of the proposal,” said ESD Assistant Chief of Operations Nick Perkins. “It will be mutually beneficial to our community, including our children.”
A construction start date for the fire station has not yet been determined.
