Tutors sought for PfISD AVID program

Aug. 21, 2019

Pflugerville ISD seeks community members interested in becoming paid tutors to students preparing to attend college.

PfISD’s Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) tutors are paid $12 an hour, assisting secondary students between two and four days per week during the school day.

The AVID program assists students in grades 6-12 to prepare for admission to two-year, four-year colleges/universities or any post-secondary plan. Students in the program must commit to take advanced classes, have satisfactory citizenship, good attendance, and a G.P.A. of 2.0 or higher.

Tutors may collaborate with program coordinators in where they will tutor. AVID is in place at all PfISD secondary schools. Tutoring takes place during school hours.

Tutors should be in college, in transition to post-secondary programs or have attended a college or university. Ideally, current college students or retired teachers are desired candidates for this role.
