PfISD Seeks English-Dominant Kindergarten Participants for Spanish Immersion

In the 2017-2018 school year, PfISD is proud to be offering a Spanish Immersion program for incoming kindergarten students. This program is for parents who are interested in having their children become proficient in Spanish. The program is currently available at Riojas Elementary. Kindergarten students from anywhere within the PFISD school district boundaries are eligible to participate.
Spanish Immersion gives our elementary students an opportunity to complete the Pflugerville School District curriculum by immersing them in the Spanish language and culture. Students in the program be taught in both Spanish and English, while learning the same curriculum content as their peers outside the program. They will learn to read, write, speak and understand Spanish in addition to English.
Any given information on grades, notices, newsletters are all sent out to parents in English. Any homework in Spanish is expected to be completed by the student in Spanish. If our parents are non-Spanish speakers at home, their greatest support is instruction and practice on what students can receive from them in English. This includes reading in English to help with fluency and comprehension. Standard mathematic problems to be solved and/or projects that promote learning. Another way that our parents can help is participating in the classroom, events, field trips and or special school events. Parents need to be fully committed to the full length of the program.
Slots for the kindergarten classes of 2017-2018 will be open for the program at Riojas Elementary. Parents interested in enrolling their English-dominant incoming kindergarten students in the program are required to attend the mandatory parent information session listed below:

Tuesday, April 11, 2017 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm Riojas Elementary

Should more families express interest in the program than space allows, a lottery system will be utilized to determine the final selection of kindergarten candidates.
