In September 2017, Vernagene Mott Elementary students led the audience in the U.S. and Texas pledges to start the meeting. These students included Isiah Espinosa, Riley Impson, Danielle Ashford and Ethany Bowles.
In September 2017, representatives from the A+ Foundation presented three PfISD staff members with grants for educational projects. This included Jean Chambers (Hendrickson HS), David Mallon (Hendrickson HS), and Marsha Munoz (Highland Park).
In September 2017, Stantec Architecture (represented by Barry Nebhut) presented PfISD and Cele Middle School (represented by principal Brian Ernest) with the 2016 Livable Buildings Award from the Center for the Built Environment at the University of California - Berkeley. The award recognizes buildings that exhibit exceptional performance in occupant satisfaction, sustainability and overall design.
In September 2017, PfISD recognized its new district administrators to the Board. This included Gina Brown, assistant principal at Weiss HS, and Brandy Baker, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction.
