June 26, 2019

The Pflugerville ISD Board of Trustees on Tuesday named longtime educator Miguel Castillo as the principal of Delco Elementary.

Castillo brings 25 years in education, most recently as principal of Bruni Elementary in Laredo. He was Bruni principal from 2010-19.

“Mr. Castillo brings a wealth of experience in education to Pflugerville ISD,” said PfISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Doug Killian. “We’re excited to welcome him to our team.”

With 76.8% of the campus classified by Texas Education Agency as English language learners, Bruni met TEA standards in 2018, with distinction designations in Math and Postsecondary Readiness.

Castillo was previously assistant principal at Laredo Memorial Middle School from 2006-09, and assistant principal at Alma Pierce Elementary in Laredo from 1999-2006.

He taught fifth grade at Ryan Elementary in Laredo from 1994-99.

Castillo obtained a master’s degree in educational administration from Texas A&M International University, and a bachelor’s degree in biology from St. Edward’s University.

Delco transitions to a full elementary school this year, with pre-K to fifth grades after long being a primary school, with pre-K to second grade only.
